As the City of Chelsea works with the community to manage the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, this is an update for residents on the use of outdoor athletic fields and courts and indoor communal spaces and gymnasiums located in the Chelsea Public Schools.

I. OUTDOORS - Municipal Athletic Fields and Courts
At this time, permits for use of athletic fields and courts are being issued under current limitations following COVID-19 guidelines. If you are a league organizer or owner of a fitness facility and would like to use a municipal field or court, fill out a permit application. You will be required to sign a document to ensure mandatory safety guidelines are followed for your activity.

II. INDOORS - Use of Chelsea Public Schools Communal Spaces and Gymnasiums
Currently, the Chelsea Public Schools are closed for community use. School administration is using all communal spaces to support student education. Community indoor group gatherings are particularly risky because COVID-19 transmission occurs more easily indoors than outdoors. Community organizations are advised to make alternative plans for indoor events and sports. Organizations will be notified if /when school facilities become available.

III. FREE Virtual Recreation Programs and Language Classes
The Chelsea Recreation Division, which includes Chelsea Community Schools, is offering a variety of FREE in-person & livestream activities to help residents of all ages stay active during the COVID-19 pandemic. Check our list of free programs here.

Thank you for your patience as we implement measures to safeguard the well-being of the community and staff. If you have questions please contact the Chelsea Recreation & Cultural Affairs Division at 617 466-4070.
